Maybe it's better to just not buy

A friend of mine posted on her blog an interesting link that I'd like to pass on. It's to an orginazation called Buy Blue that is trying to compile a list of the political donations of corporations. It's very interesting to peruse through and see where that money your spending is really going. Some notables (for me, at least):
the good: apple, costco, ebay, google, jetblue, netflix, sun, tom's of maine...
the bad: amazon, home depot, intel, ibm, MICROSOFT, UPS, usaa...
(the all-caps have given more than $1e6). One thing that will pop out immediately as you scan down the list is that most of the money is going to the Republicans, and a LOT of money at that. Financial institutions and energy just love to dump their profits in to Republican pockets. I wish the site had some overall statistics. None of this is really that terribly surprising to me, but it's really valuable to see.
Another thing it's interesting to note is that most companies are giving to both parties. I'll leave that up to the readers to interpret.

i understand the falicy of la
i understand the falicy of labelling the democratic and republican contributers as "good" and "bad" respectively. that is OBVIOUSLY not how it breaks down. most of these companies are donating for nothing more than prurient self-intrest and complete disregard for social responsibility.
no matter how evil you may think the democrats are, though, the republicans are WAY more evil, and the main thing that i was trying to highlight that i find most interesting about this list is how much money these companies, many of whom we patronize with on a regular basis, give, and how evil they are by association.
yep. i understand your point
yep. i understand your point, and the Dems clearly aren't as evil as the Repubs. But i actually don't think that the financial amounts they're donating are all that much, compared to what they get from it.
Granted, the amounts far exceed what any but the wealthiest individuals can, uh, "contribute", but look at what they get back in exchange! the weakening enforcement of labor laws and the EPA alone has to be worth billions to the companies involved. That's what i meant by the ROI (return on investment) of these bribes. If you give a million bucks for in exchange for getting a new law which makes you an additional $10 million in revenue (or cuts your expenses by $10 million), that's an astounding 1000% return (or is it 900% -- i don't remember whether you're supposed to subtract the initial investment -- either way, it's a lot)!
i agree with yer subject line
i agree with yer subject line.
it's all a ton of crappy bribery, corruption, and graft. The democrats have just shown themselves to be worse at delivering the cash money than the republicans, so they're losing ground in keeping the payoffs coming in.
contributing to both parties is an old standby -- no matter who wins, they're not gonna want to turn against you for fear of losing yer "contributions" the next time around. and the ROI on campaign contributions can be really astounding. Consider that Microsoft didn't get broken into pieces like a DoJ with any backbone would have done. $1e6 is peanuts to them compared to that.
